The Aravali Hills – From Green Lungs to an Effective Environmental Shield

The recent battle between environmentalists and industrialists, especially real estate investors, over the Aravali mountain range is raising crucial issues regarding the environmental balance of our country, which clearly requires every citizen to be serious about this issue. The answer to the question, "What is the Aravali Range?" is that it is India's oldest mountain range, stretching over 800 km across Gujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Delhi, providing environmental protection to all these states.

The Aravali Hills act as a green wall or green lung for Delhi-NCR, preventing desert sand and dust from Rajasthan from entering areas like Delhi and maintaining a balanced temperature. The Aravali Hills trap rainwater and slowly absorb it into the ground, conserving groundwater and recharging it. These hills act as a "stable rainfall system" for the eastern regions. Rivers like the Luni, Banas, and Sabarmati originate in the Aravalli region. This region serves as a biodiversity hotspot.

The question arises: real estate developers want mining and real estate projects to be allowed in the lower reaches of the Aravali. Environmental groups have protested and filed writ petitions against this. The point is that if they continue to mine and cut trees in the lower reaches, it risks impacting temperatures, groundwater recharge, and increasing pollution.

It is worth noting that the Supreme Court's decision, based on a "100-meter" definition, states that "landforms that are 100 meters or more high locally will be considered Aravali Hills." Accordingly, many small hills that play a significant role in the environment are now legally protected. Mining mafias and real estate companies will not be able to illegally exploit this decision. In the lower regions of the Aravalli, where there are small hills or trees, arbitrary felling will be prohibited. Efforts will be made to preserve the biodiversity there.

Rajni Care Foundation (RCF) is a non-profit organization working practically for environmental protection and conservation. RCF has undertaken work in several locations to promote tree plantation and green development in the year 2025. The organization considers green development a serious agenda among its core goals. Led by Mr. Devendra Mohan, RCF is committed to supporting the campaign to protect and conserve the Aravalli Hills. The organization has released several reels through social media as part of the Save Aravali campaign, highlighting the importance of the Aravalli Hills.

RCF stands with all environmentalists, activists, and every Indian who are working to save the Aravalli. RCF also expects cooperation from the government that it will soon take important steps to end mining and industrialization in the lower areas of this mountain range.
